The Mawogola North aspirant Nsubuga Farouk of the Democratic Front (DF) has expressed disappointment after the Electoral Commission (EC) declined to nominate him, citing incomplete nomination requirements and missing documents.
Nsubuga said he had all the required signatures and had even verified them against the list provided by the EC. However, his party, the Democratic Front (DF) allegedly forgot to stamp one of the extra papers, leading to the rejection of his nomination.
He further explained that the EC informed him that his official nomination forms were fewer than six, a requirement he insists he met since he had ten complete forms just the four were missing the party's stamp.
“They also told me that some of the people who signed for me are not registered voters of Mawogola North,” Nsubuga said.
“I don’t understand how that could change. Because of the new NIRA system, some voters might have been moved to different Electoral areas, but I brought genuine signatures from Mawogola North residents,” he added.
Nsubuga said he pleaded with the EC to transfer stamps from the valid forms to the others that had been left unstamped by his party.
He also requested to withdraw his candidacy from the DF and run as an independent candidate, but was informed that such a decision must be signed off by his party’s Secretary General.
Frustrated by the process, Nsubuga now says he plans to take the Electoral Commission to court, seeking clarification on why he was disqualified from the Mawogola North Parliamentary race despite what he claims was full compliance with nomination requirements.
